Replacing it is simple: shut off the water, twist the old filter to remove it, then push and twist the new one in place.
I have tried to replace my refrigerator filter with after market products, but had to deal with leaks since they didn't fit perfectly.

Though i paid a little more than i could have for offbrand filters these work perfectly and were easy to install.
It costs more but it's worth it.
